The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan is being asked to clarify its land claim lawsuit against the state.
The tribe filed its complaint last year, arguing that the historic Isabella Reservation still exists. The tribe is citing an 1855 executive order and treaties signed in 1855 and 1864.
The tribe and the state have agreed the case raises issues that need to be resolved. But the judge wants the tribe to clarify whether it is seeking jurisdiction over non-Indians. An amended complaint is due today.
