Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R) declared victory on Tuesday in her historic write-in
campaign in Alaska.
With only about 700 ballots left, Murkowski led Republican Joe Miller, an attorney who has
the backing of the Tea Party movement, by 10,400 votes.
"Doesn't it just feel like, wow,"Murkowski said at a rally, The Fairbanks Daily News Miner. "It feels a little bit mind-boggling."
Alaskans Standing
Together, an independent expenditure committee largely funded by Alaska
Native corporations, spent more than $1 million to support Murkowski during the
race. The overwhelming majority of votes in Alaska Native villages went to
Murkowski.
