The Environmental Protection Agency and the Indian Health Service are distributing $90 million in stimulus funds for water projects in Indian Country.
The money comes from the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009. It will be used to improve drinking water and wastewater services in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
"This investment is win-win. Addressing long-standing water issues in tribal communities is also going to bring in new jobs and new opportunities – helping them get through the economic downturn and build a lasting foundation for prosperity,” EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson said in a press release.
The money will be used for 95 wastewater and 64 drinking water projects across Indian Country.
