The Department of Justice will distribute $23.6 million to tribes under the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act
The law provides $20.8 million to tribes for the Indian Tribal Governments Program and $2.8 million for the Tribal Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalitions Program. Both programs are operated by the Office on Violence Against Women at DOJ.
"These Recovery Act funds will assist tribal communities in responding to violent crimes against Indian women," said Associate Attorney General Thomas J. Perrelli. "Providing new resources to address the needs of tribal communities is essential to improving our victim services."
Applications for the Tribal Governments Program are due by April 8. New applicants can request up to $450,000 while current grantees can request up to $1 million.
The Tribal Coalitions Program applications are due by April 8. Awards will be issued up to $154,000.
The eligibility requirements, award periods, program scope, performance measures, selection criteria and review process are posted at http://www.ovw.usdoj.gov/recovery.htm.
