Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico broke ground on fitness facility with funds from the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The tribe is spending $14 million on the project. Plans were scaled back to keep the costs down.
“We had to scale back the cost and eliminate plans for a library and auditorium, and decided to concentrate on physical well-being,” tribal engineer Raymond J. Concho, Jr. told The Cibola Beacon.
The tribe received money from the Department of Agriculture Rural Development Business and Cooperative Program.
