A member of the San Manuel
Band of Mission Indians of California is in court today in hopes of clearing up a recent arrest.
Stacy Cheyenne Barajas-Nunez, 26, was arrested in the parking lot of her tribe's casino on Friday as she was trying to file a complaint. She never entered the casino building but was arrested by San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies.
Barajas-Nunez was recently sentenced to home detention for pleading guilty to a murder-for-hire plot. Her arrest could affect her sentence but her lawyer calls the incident a mistake.
Barajas-Nunez's brother also pleaded guilty for his role in the scheme and has been placed on house arrest. Critics say the pair got off lightly because the tribe is a political powerhouse
and has donated money to the Michael Ramos, the San Bernardino County District
Attorney.
