Two members of the San Manuel Band of Mission
Indians of California will be sentenced on Tuesday for their roles in a murder-for-hire plot.
Stacy Cheyenne Barajas-Nunez and her brother, Erik Barajas, could have faced life in prison. But under a plea agreement with the San Bernardino County District Attorney, they are due to sentenced to home monitoring.
Leonard Epps, the intended victim of the murder, criticized the arrangement. He said the tribe's $22,500 in contributions to DA Michael Ramos influenced the pleas, a charge the office denied.
Epps is suing Barajas-Nunez, 26, and Barajas, 36, and a Mexican Mafia leader for $50 million because he said he has been forced to go into hiding and can't work. The Mexican Mafia leader pleaded guilty to attempted murder.
