Woman in San Manuel murder case sentenced

A woman was sentenced to three years probation in connection with a murder-for-hire scheme involving a Mexican Mafia drug kingpin and two members of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.

Jennifer Laverna Murphy, 27, was among 18 people arrested in a major methamphetamine bust on and off the San Manuel Reservation. She was charged along with Salvador Orozco Hernandez, 43, who is said to be one of the top leaders of the Mexican Mafia.

Also charged were Stacy Cheyenne Barajas-Nunez, 24, and Erik Barajas, 34. Authorities say the two tribal members are connected to Mexican gangs that have infiltrated the reservation.
