The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the fatal shootings of three members of the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians of California.
Deputies from the Riverside County
sheriff's deputies shot and killed the three members during a one-week period in May. Joseph Arres, 36, and Tamara Angela Hurtado, 29, were killed on May 12 and Eli Morillo, 26, was killed on May 8.
The incidents heightened tensions between the tribe and the county sheriff. The two sides still don't agree on the extent of the state's jurisdiction under Public Law 280.
