A member of the Torres-Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians says deputies from the Riverside County
Sheriff's Department stopped and detained him because he is Indian.
Michael Malone, 19, says deputies pointed a Taser at him and remarked, "Yee-haw, boys, we caught us an Injun." He talked about the incident at a Public Law
280 forum hosted by the Soboba Band of Luiseno
Indians on Monday.
The sheriff's department is investigating the allegations. So is the police department in Temecula, where the incident occurred.
