Tribal and state officials need to work together to ensure the success of Indian students, South Dakota's top Indian educator said.
Keith Moore, a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, said Indian students graduate at rates far lower than their white counterparts. He said their ACT scores are improving but still fall below the state average.
Programs like Gear Up can help change the situation, Moore said. The program gives Indian high school students an introduction to college life and studies.
