Indian education will be the focus of two upcoming conferences, one in South Dakota and the other in Montana.
The South Dakota Department of Education is hosting the annual Indian Education Summit in Pierre. The conference runs September 24-26 at the Ramkota Hotel. This year's theme is "Our Voice, Your Voice, One Voice."
The Montana Historical Society is putting a focus on Indian education during its annual conference in Billings from September 28-30. Teachers can get advice on how to implement the Indian Education for All Act.
Montana is finally funding the act, which requires public schools to teach about Indian history and culture. Indian educators have raised questions about some school district's use of the money but officials are denying misspending.
