Members of the Passamaquoddy Tribe of Maine ousted embattled Governor Robert L. Newell in the election at Indian Township.
Newell lost by more than 100 votes. He was defeated by William J. Nicholas, who takes over the job October 1.
Newell was said to be under federal investigations. Agents were on the reservation last week ago to investigated alleged misuse of tribal funds.
A grand jury was said to be meeting on Wednesday to consider possible charges against people who may have been involved.
