Senate committee to discuss Cobell settlement


Staff from the Senate Indian Affairs Committee are meeting in Rapid City, South Dakota, on Friday to discuss a proposed settlement to the Cobell trust fund lawsuit.

The meeting is being hosted by the Great Plains Tribal Chairmen�s Association. It starts at 9am in the amphitheater of the LaQuinta Inn & Suites at 1416 N. Elk Valley Road.

The committee has held meetings in Washington, Arizona and North Dakota. A meeting in Tulsa is being planned for September 1.

According to The Rapid City Journal, $7 billion will be used to settle the Cobell case and $1 billion will be used to address land mismanagement.
