Native gang leader appeals murder conviction

A Native gang leader who was convicted of first-degree murder is taking his case to the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal.

Quinton Lloyd Bitternose was convicted for the November 2004 killing of Wayne Gerald Friday. The incident was gang-related, a fellow defendant said.

Bitternose, a leader of the Native Syndicate, a street gang in Regina, acted as his own lawyer but often refused to cooperate and didn't show up for his sentencing. He now says he didn't get a fair trial.
