A Native gang member who complained at his trial that he was being judged by an all-white jury failed to show up for his own sentencing hearing.
Quinton Lloyd Bitternose was convicted of murdering Wayne Friday in November 2004 in what was said to be a gang-related crime. He automatically received a life sentence with no chance for parole for 25 years.
At one point, Bitternose asked for a mistrial after complaining about the racial makeup of the jury. He had been acting as his own lawyer but mainly refused to participate in the case.
