Gila River industrial park marks 40th birthday

The Gila River Indian Community in Arizona is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its industrial park.

When it first opened, the park was considered somewhat remote. But due to the rapid expansion of the greater Phoenix area, the tribe has seen success at the 820-acre site, which is 80 percent occupied and contributes more than $1.5 million in profits every year.

The park will get even bigger. The tribe is waiting on the Bureau of Indian Affairs to approve a land-into-trust application for 98 acres.
