Breakthrough cited in tribe's plan for old airstrip

The Gila River Indian Community is earning praise from its neighbors for responding to concerns about the tribe's plans to redevelop an old airstrip.

Last month, neighbors asked Arizona's Congressional delegation to intervene. They said the tribe's plans posed a safety and noise hazard.

But now residents are happy that the tribe has revised plans for the Memorial Airfield to lessen the impact on the area.
