A 20-year-old man facing hate crimes charges for the beating of a Navajo man was back in court to face burglary charges in another case.
CL Carnie allegedly told two others to steal items from his former place of employment in Farmington, New Mexico. It's the same place where one of his co-defendants in beating case used to work.
Carnie and two other white youths were charged with beating William Blackie, 46, on June 4. The incident raised racial tensions between Farmington and the Navajo Nation.
The state filed a hate crimes motion against Carnie and the other defendants. They could receive additional punishment if found guilty.
