A federal judge will hold a hearing next Thursday on a motion filed for a new trial filed by
David Safavian, a former Bush administration official who was convicted for lying about his ties to Jack Abramoff.
Safavian says the jury shouldn't have seen e-mails sent to Abramoff that discussed a 2000 golf trip to Scotland and government matters. Safavian was working for the General Services Administration at the time and Abramoff sought his help on securing government properties.
Safavian was a lobbyist who worked with Abramoff before forming his own firm. His clients included the National Indian Gaming Association.
