Jury deliberations were halted in the case of a former Bush administration official charged with lying about his relationship with Jack Abramoff.
The jury of 10 women and 2 men had the case for just four hours before federal prosecutors accused one of them of misconduct. They said a female juror talked about the case outside of court and disregarded the jury's instructions.
Prosecutors want the juror dismissed and replaced with an alternate but attorneys for David Safavian opposed the request and asked the judge to instruct the jury not to talk about the case outside of court.
Safavian is accused of lying about the nature of his relationship with Abramoff when he went on an August 2003 trip to Scotland that was partly financed with tribal money.
