A Native man from Canada is fighting attempts to extradite him to the United States to face a trial for the murder of American Indian Movement activist Anna Mae Pictou Aquash.
John Graham, a Native from the Yukon Territory, is charged with the 1976 murder of Aquash on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. He was a member of AIM at the time.
The B.C. Supreme Court ruled that Graham can be extradited. The Canadian government has since issued an extradition order.
Graham intends to fight the decision and the order, his lawyers said.
Graham is the second man charged with Aquash's death. Arlo Looking Cloud was found guilty by a federal jury in February 2004.
