A man charged with murdering American Indian Movement activist Anna Mae Pictou Aquash told a medicine man of his involvement in the brutal 1975 crime, a Canadian court was told on Monday.

A prosecutor said John Graham, a Canadian Native, shot Aquash in the back of the head. An accomplice, Arlo Looking Cloud, did not shoot her but fired the remaining rounds into the ground, the prosecutor said. Graham later told a medicine man what happened, according to the prosecutor.

The statements came during the opening day of Graham's extradition hearing. Graham, charged in federal court in South Dakota, says he won't get a fair trial in the United States.

Looking Cloud was convicted of murdering Aquash but is appealing.
