New York Gov. George Pataki (R) is being asked to seek the dismissal of all Indian land claims in the state.

The Cayuga Nation, the Oneida Nation, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and the Onondaga Nation have claims pending in court. Most of the tribes filed their cases more than two decades ago.

But State Assemblyman David Townsend, a Republican, says the claims should be thrown out. He cited the U.S. Supreme Court's refusal to revive the Cayuga claim, which the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals has dismissed.
