Navajo woman chosen as new president of IAIA

Cassandra Manuelito-Kerkvliet, a member of the Navajo Nation, is the new president of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Manuelito-Kerkvliet, 51, was the first woman president of Dine College on the Navajo Nation. She received a Ph.D. in educational policy and management last June from the University of Oregon.

"I am deeply honored and humbled to be selected as the next President of the Institute of American Indian Arts. I come with great enthusiasm to help the Board of Trustees to meet new visions and goals, and to put IAIA in an International light," Manuelito-Kerkvliet said.

Manuelito-Kerkvliet replaces Della Warrior, a member of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Oklahoma who ran IAIA for 12 years and will continue to serve as a consultant for the tribal college.
