Out of 36 tribal colleges in the nation, seven are in need of a new leader, The Santa Fe New Mexican reports.
Locally, the Institute of American Indian Arts and the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute need new presidents. Both schools are working with the Association of Community College Trustees to recruit candidates.
Other tribal colleges looking for presidents are Fort Berthold Community College (Fort Berthold Reservation, North Dakota), D-Q University in California, Nebraska Indian Community College (Omaha Reservation, Nebraska), Sitting Bull College (Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, North Dakota) and Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College (Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, Wisconsin).
