The Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, will be honoring outgoing president Della Warrior at its annual powwow this weekend.
The powwow takes place on Saturday at the Santa Fe Indian School gymnasium. It starts at noon and runs through 11pm. Grand entry is at 7pm. Vendors will be selling food, beverages, fine crafts, works of art, jewelry and commemorative items.
Warrior, a member of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Oklahoma, is stepping down after 12 years as president of IAIA. She will remain on board as a consultant for the tribal college.
The city of Santa Fe is proclaiming November 30, 2005, as Della Warrior Day. The resolution cites Warrior's commitment to improving IAIA and promoting American Indian and Alaska Native culture.
