Under an agreement between Republicans and Democrats, the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote next Tuesday, instead of today, on U.S. Supreme Court nominee Samuel A. Alito Jr.
Alito's confirmation hearing wrapped up on Friday. Democrats were frustrated that Alito didn't say much about his views, except that he might consider overturning Roe v. Wade, which upheld a woman's right to an abortion.
Oneida Nation Chairman Jerry Danforth said he was concerned about some of Alito's rulings as a judge on the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. He was worried that Alito's judicial philosophy could spell trouble for the Oneida Nation land claim if it goes before the Supreme Court again.
"It might not be heard or not be considered what the facts have been supporting this land claim case all along," Danforth told The Appleton Post-Crescent.
