Upwards of 10,000 people attended the National Museum of the American Indian's National Powwow in Washington, D.C., over the weekend.

The three-day powwow featured dancing, drumming and vendors at the MCI Center. The museum gave out $100,000 in prizes to the best dancers.

Retired Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colorado) led the grand entry on Saturday long with NMAI Director Rick West and Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Vice Chairman Glynn Crooks.

This was the second powwow held by the museum. The first took place on the National Mall in 2002. It was followed by the grand opening of the NMAI in September 2004.
