The National Museum of the American Indian had 275,400 visitors in its first full month, The Washington Post reports.
The figure shows the museum is on track to have about 4.2 million visitors in its first full year, as officials expect. An average of 8,883 people visit the facility every day.
If the trend continues, the NMAI will be one of the most popular in the U.S. According to The Post, the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum saw 9.4 million visits in 2003, the Natural History museum had 5.2 million, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York had 5 million, the National Gallery of Art saw 4.2 million, the American Museum of Natural History in New York got 3 million and the Smithsonian's Museum of American History had 2.6 million visitors.
NMAI opened to the public on September 21.
