The leaders of two Virginia tribes visited the grave of Pocahontas on their official visit to England.
Chief Stephen Adkins of the Chickahominy Tribe and Chief Kenneth Adams of the Upper Mattaponi Tribe went to Gravesend, where Pocahontas is buried at St. George's Church.
Pocahontas went to England after marrying John Rolfe, one of the Jamestown settlers.
The tribes made their visit to help plans events for the 2007 commemoration of the Jamestown settlement. The tribes hope to raise support for their federal recognition.
Back in the U.S., the Monacan Tribe held its 13th annual powwow over the weekend. The tribe is part of a bill to recognize six Virginia tribes, including the Chickahominy and the Upper Mattaponi.
