The Montana Republican Party filed a complaint against Sen. Max Baucus (D-Montana) on Wednesday, asking the Federal Election Commission to investigate a donation by a former associate of Jack Abramoff.
Ronald L. Platt worked at Greenberg Traurig, Abramoff's old firm. In March 2001, Platt hosted the fundraiser for Baucus a skybox in the MCI Center in Washington, D.C.
Baucus said this week he would reimburse the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians for using the skybox. But it turns out that it was Platt who spent nearly $1,900 on the event, about $900 more than federal limits allow.
Baucus said he would cut Platt a check for about $900 and donate the remainder of his Abramoff-related donations to the seven tribal colleges in Montana.
