Democrats received campaign contributions from tribes who were former clients of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
Of the top 18 recipients, six were Democrats, according to The Washington Post. Bloomberg News previously reported that Republicans received most of the $1.4 million that Abramoff tribes gave to members of Congress.
A Republican, Sen. Conrad Burns of Montana, was the top recipient, with $141,590 from 1999 to 2004. Second in line was a Democrat: Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy of Rhode Island with $128,000
Other Democrats in the top 18 included former Sen. Tom Daschle of South Dakota ($40,000),
Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada ($40,000) and Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri ($32,500).
Sen. Patty Murray of Washington and Sen. Byron L. Dorgan of North Dakota also received money but the amounts were not specified.
