The Blackfeet Nation of Montana has sent more than 100 tribal members to the South to aid in hurricane relief efforts and even more workers are on the way.
Tribal agencies kicked into action when the Federal Emergency Management Agency asked for help. The tribe and the Native American Bank helped tribal members meet FEMA requirements for emergency work.
When the process is complete, the Blackfeet Manpower program will have sent 600 tribal members to aid in relief efforts. Many of the 100 people who just left Montana will be responding to Hurricane Wilma, which just hit Florida.
Other Blackfeet workers have already been helping out in New Orleans.
