Mississippi Choctaws hit by Hurricane Katrina

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians were hit by Hurricane Katrina this week.

The hurricane knocked down trees and caused power outages on the reservation. Some remote homes are without telephone service. The tribe is waiting to hear what happened to a community near Hattisburg, which was hard hit by Katrina.

The tribe has been hosting evacuees at its hotels and resorts. CNN personality Anderson Cooper stayed at one of the tribe's casinos and filed reports from there.

The Seminole Tribe of Florida sent an emergency team to assist the Choctaws.
