The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas is still without electricity and running water after being hit hard by Hurricane Rita.
Tribal members said the disaster is one of their worst in history. But with the help of the community, other tribes and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the tribe is beginning to recover.
The BIA is currently assessing the economic damage. The tribe's oil and gas wells, a source of royalties, have been shut down but should be up in a couple of days, BIA director Pat Ragsdale said. The tribe's timber losses need to be assessed.
The reservation is located in East Texas outside of Houston.
