The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to file a brief in opposition to the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians' land-into-trust application.
The board acted after failing to come to an agreement with the tribe over the use of 6.9 acres. However, supervisors still hope they can reach a deal.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs has agreed to acquire the land but a group called Santa Ynez Valley Concerned Citizens filed an appeal. The county can't file its own appeal because the deadline already passed, so the brief was filed to support the citizens' group.
