County reconsiders Chumash land-into-trust deal

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors will meet behind closed doors today to reconsider a deal with the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians over the tribe's land-into-trust application.

In February, the county agreed not to appeal the tribe's application pending a final agreement. But it's been six months and no deal has been reached.

The tribe is promising not to use 6.9 acres across from its casino for gaming purposes. The Bureau of Indian Affairs has agreed to take the land into trust.
