Already facing criticism for an earlier application, the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians is asking the Bureau of Indian Affairs to take about six more acres into trust.
The BIA previously agreed to acquire 6.9 acres for the tribe. The decision is being appealed by local residents who want Santa Barbara County to join the fight.
The county hasn't taken a stance on that appeal and plans to discuss the tribe's request for the 5.81 acres this week.
