Meskwaki mom wants son to go to non-Native family

A member of the Meskwaki Tribe of Iowa is upset that she can't allow her son to be adopted by a non-Native couple.

Kelly Buffalo says she only wants what is best for her newborn son, Braven. But she must obtain the consent of the tribe before any adoption takes place, a tribal judge ruled on Tuesday.

Buffalo says the Indian Child Welfare Act is unfair because it gives tribal governments a say in the welfare of Indian children.. "It's my baby and should be my decision. I'm probably more mad at what is happening than anything else," she told the Associated Press in an interview.
