Hearing slated on custody dispute over Indian boy

A judge in Minnesota has scheduled a March 14 hearing in a custody dispute involving an Indian boy who was given up for adoption.

Juanita Good Bird agreed to give her son, Christian, to a non-Indian family. But her decision to terminate her parental rights was not executed by a judge as required by the Indian Child Welfare Act.

Good Bird now wants to reclaim custody of four-year-old Christian, who is eligible for membership in the Three Affiliated Tribes of North Dakota. The tribes support Good Bird's case.
