"My brother, Don, has become famous on the reservation. They call him the "deer killer," the Rambo of White Shield, N.D., and the man who is most likely to bring down a deer.

Why is that? Because he has killed more deer this year with his car than anyone else. It is hard on the cars, but he certainly brings them down, his wife said with a big smile. My sister and I laughed, but we kidded my brother later when he handed us a plastic bag of sausage from a deer that he'd bagged on a hunt. Had he golfed, and then used a road-kill deer for our sausage?

Of course not!

On our way home after getting our share of sausage, my sister and I talked. Remember last year? she asked. His sausage was so hot, it nearly melted the skin right off your tongue. Could it have been hiding a little road dirt?

Well, my sister said, this deer sausage is suppose to be mild. And she grinned."
