A group led by the Pala Band of Mission Indians appealed a decision that would remove the tribe's anti-landfill initiative from the November ballot.
The tribe says the Gregory Canyon landfill will harm the environment and pollute the San Luis Rey River. The proposed dump would be located near two sacred sites.
The developers of the landfill say the tribe is really trying to prevent dumptrucks from a road leading to the tribe's casino. They say the ballot language sought by the tribe is misleading because it contains a mistake in its description of the location of the dump site.
