The Pala Band of Mission Indians says its voter initiative against a landfill should not be taken of the ballot over a typographical error.
The tribe submitted the measure to defeat the Gregory Canyon landfill in San Diego County. But attorneys representing the landfill want it removed from the ballot because it incorrectly states that part of it would be located in Riverside County.
The tribe is worried the landfill will pollute the reservation's sole source of water. The landfill would be located near two sacred sites, Gregory Mountain and Medicine Rock.
