Pala Band's anti-landfill measure safe for now

The Pala Band of Mission Indians will have to defend its voter initiative against a landfill at an upcoming meeting.

The tribe collected enough signatures for the petition to be placed on the November ballot. But attorneys for the landfill say it should be removed because it contains an incorrect description of the project.

The issue will now go beore the San Diego County Board of Supervisors on July 13. The tribe says the incorrect wording was just a typographical error.

The tribe is worried the landfill will pollute the reservation's sole source of water. The landfill would be located near two sacred sites, Gregory Mountain and Medicine Rock.
