The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin wants to settle its portion of the Oneida land claim for a casino in the Catskills region of New York.
The tribe is one of three parties to the 250,000-acre claim. Tribal officials say they are entitled to the largest portion of a settlement because they have the most members.
The tribe has floated a Catskills casino proposal with the state. A spokesperson for Gov. George Pataki (R) called the offer unacceptable.
The Oneida Nation of New York has moved to settle the full claim without consulting the Oneidas of Wisconsin or in Ontario, Canada.
