A special advisory panel in Phoenix, Arizona, failed to come to a decision on whether to rename the park at the base of Piestewa Peak.

Representatives of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community said the Squaw Peak Recreation Area should be changed. They suggested the name of Vainom Do'ag, which translates to Iron Mountain in the Pima language.

But others were opposed to the change, harboring resentment over the renaming of Squaw Peak for Lori Piestewa, the Hopi woman killed in action in Iraq.

The advisory panel and the Phoenix Parks and Recreation board will hold a public meeting next month to discuss the name change.
