Shinnecock Nation gaining allies with plans for gaming facility

The Shinnecock Nation is gaining more support for its plan to build a casino and a hotel at racetrack in New York.

In July, the tribe outlined plans to add gaming to the Belmont Park Raceway on Long Island. Lawmakers from the area say the project will generate jobs and stimulate the economy.

"The growing bipartisan support for a Shinnecock casino at Belmont is further proof that this project can generate thousands of jobs and real revenues for the state, Nassau County and the Shinnecock Nation sooner than later, Randy King, the chairman of the tribe's board of trustees, told Newsday.

The tribes want to build up to three gaming facilities on Long Island. The tribe gained federal recognition in October 2010.
