Three members of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians want the tribe to hold a referendum on its new casino plan.
The tribal council voted 8-7 to move forward with the casino near Sandersville,
in Jones County. The project has drawn significant local and state opposition.
The site is about 80 miles from tribal headquarters in Philadelphia,
where the tribe operates two casinos. But the land is still considered part of the reservation.
