Leaders of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will vote May 14 on a casino away from the main reservation, The Laurel Leader-Call reported.
The tribe is considering a $17 million, 27,000 square-foot casino near Sandersville
in Jones County. That's about 80 miles from tribal headquarters in Philadelphia,
where the tribe operates two gaming facilities.
The casino would offer between 500 to 700 slot machines, a tribal executive said. It would employ 250 people.
The tribe proposed an off-reservation casino in Jackson County a few years ago but ran into opposition. The land was taken into trust after the passage of the Indian
Gaming Regulatory Act
